About the Release

"StarStruck (Pawn in their Game)" is inspired by Bob Dylan's "Only a Pawn in Their Game," reimagining its message to address contemporary struggles faced by marginalized communities.

MOLOMBO brings vibrant African indie rock and pop elements to the track, drawing influence from Amadou & Mariam's "Dougou Badia." As a Congolese American, MOLOMBO integrates his heritage through collaborations with a Harlem-based guitarist, a Nigerian pianist, a Nigerian church choir, and a Cameroonian vocal chanter. The beat was crafted by his longtime friend HYDoThat, with Big Rula handling the mixing and mastering. Notably, the female vocals at the end are performed by MOLOMBO's wife, Emoura.

"StarStruck" begins with an ethereal blend of psychedelic guitar, synths, and vocals, setting a dreamy tone. The song then introduces an international ensemble, featuring a Harlem guitarist, a Nigerian pianist and choir, and a Cameroonian vocal chanter, transitioning into a relaxed Afropop groove. Molombo delivers a melodic social commentary freestyle, masterfully fusing African indie rock and pop.
