Karlan G Brings Back 2000s Emo Nostalgia with Brand New Single 'Rest Up': "Embracing the Darkness of Heartbreak and Sorrow"

With an emergent musical career that took off in 2018 with his debut single "Relentless Waves," Texas-based solo artist Karlan G showcases a level of compositional mastery that feels like the product of decades of experience. Each of his creations successfully transports listeners to the iconic era where emo rock was at its peak, capturing the essence of this influential genre with remarkable precision and sentiment.

Today, this young talented musician is back with a captivating new offering that continues this trend. His latest release, "Rest Up," blends raw emotional vulnerability with the high-octane energy of post-hardcore and pop-punk, inviting listeners to explore the turbulence of toxic relationships, reflecting on the intense highs and devastating lows that come with emotional entanglements.

About Karlan G

Karlan G is a solo alternative singer-songwriter based in Arlington, TX. Karlan’s artistic journey started in hip-hop but he quickly found a home in post-hardcore and emo - a genre he’s loved since he was a teenager.

Influenced by rock giants like Bring Me the Horizon and Hawthorne Heights, Karlan focuses on channeling raw emotion into his guitar-driven tracks and exploring some of the darker times we all experience. Joined by Alec Banker on guitar and Jordan Nelson on drums, Karlan brings an explosive full band to his recordings and live shows.

Track Analysis

"Rest Up" wastes no time in unleashing its full potential from the very first seconds. This captivating and emotive track grabs the audience's attention instantly, thanks to its unique structure that begins with a spectacular introduction, gradually building in intensity before swiftly culminating in a powerful chorus, delivering all its energy and dynamism right from the start.

As the song progresses, Karlan G manages to captivate with his polished and vibrant vocal interpretation, offering a highly moving and stimulating narrative. His gripping lyrics and colorful rhythms bravely address the pain and frustration of heartbreak, exploring the darkest corners of self-destruction and internal struggle. However, his natural ability to turn negative emotions into an opportunity for personal reinvention and emotional liberation manifests in each of his words, as "Rest Up" resonates like a true anthem, allowing listeners to feel understood and inviting them to confront their own conflicts and heal their wounds through his melodies.

The accompanying music video paints a vivid picture of inner turmoil. Set behind the wheel of a car, Karlan sings, “Crashed my car into the dark / I’m better off dead than with a broken heart,” as unsettling visuals combined with an attractive play of lights and colors unfold to bring his experiences to life. Haunting hands emerges from the backseat, grabbing at him aggressively, perfectly symbolizing the suffocating grip of emotional chaos that complements the track's themes of disappointment and despair.

The spectacular mixing and mastering work are undoubtedly one of the standout aspects of this new release, as it manages to evoke the spirit of emo from the early 2000s while presenting a completely fresh and renewed aura, allowing fans of bands like Silverstein, Dead Poetic, and Story Of The Year to continue enjoying this style while also attracting new generations and proving that emo music is far from dead, rather is more alive than ever!
