This time is no exception. Following the success of "If Only", their stunning music video inspired by Beetlejuice, and their acclaimed cover of Linkin Park’s "Given Up", the Phoenix, Arizona-based post-hardcore band continues their rise to stardom. This time, they outdo themselves with what is definitely their most ambitious project to date: the new music video for "G.S.S.".

In-Depth Analysis

From a musical perspective, "G.S.S." wastes no time capturing listeners' attention with its inherent energy. It opens with the powerful roar of the electric guitars resonating in unison alongside a prominent percussion work, creating an immediate impact. The vocal lines enter shortly after, as the song’s distinctive structure takes a shortcut straight into the first verse. This intentional pacing highlights that the track has a lot to express.

This spectacular new offering delves into the determination and courage we often lack to pursue our desires and embrace our authenticity. Arsenic Kitchen, as true masters of music composition, skillfully contrast this drive for liberation with those "chains" that bind us and prevent us from living freely and without restrictions.

Through its lyrics, "G.S.S." strikes a perfect balance by rawly exposing the innate vulnerability of human beings when faced with feelings, emotions, and frustrations. At the same time, it delivers a bold narrative that encourages listeners to embrace spontaneity and inner strength.

However, the most interesting aspect of this piece is how this theme connects with the humorous nature of its music video. While Arsenic Kitchen often explores deeply emotional and sentimental topics in their songs, "G.S.S." represents an opportunity to showcase a lighter side of the band, driven by the playful and humorous tone of their visual counterpart, which perfectly aligns with its call to stay true to ourselves.

Blake Miller, the band’s guitarist, describes: “We all love to joke around and do ridiculous things. This song was the perfect opportunity to put that into our music and the video. We don’t usually get the chance to do this because our music tends to be emotional and serious.”

While listeners can delight in the catchy vocal lines of Lucas Fulmer, the powerful riffs from Blake Miller and Anthony Merryman on guitar and bass, and the immersive percussion arrangements of Jonathan Bresar, they will also be treated to an original visual experience inspired by the vintage aesthetic of 80s television shows. In it, we see the band taking on various roles in diverse and amusing scenarios, from cooking shows and news broadcasts to reality shows and parodies of ‘telenovelas’ and infomercials. The audience takes on the role of the protagonist, watching each scene as if zapping through cable TV channels on an old analog television.

The music video, produced by RedBlack Films, combines impeccable editing with a vibrant color palette that enhances the 80s spirit. Every detail, from the characteristic outfits to the visual effects, has been carefully designed to immerse viewers in a unique audiovisual journey you'll want to experience over and over again.

In addition to its intriguing and profound lyrical theme and the captivating aesthetics of the music video, this proposal plays with the idea of how we consumed entertainment media back in the day and how these platforms were willing to create exaggerated or even ridiculous content to capture the public's attention. It establishes a subtle yet critical tone toward the stereotypes that once dominated the entertainment world.

Arsenic Kitchen has recently been performing live at various venues, bringing their talent to the live music experience. Their two recent shows, on January 8th in West Hollywood, CA, and January 11th in Corona, CA, were met with an incredible reception from the audience, and they are currently preparing for their next show at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ. So, if you're in the area, you definitely can't miss this spectacular opportunity!
